After nearly two years of extensive research and discussion with both internal and community stakeholders, the Carmel Clay Public Library made the decision to purchase a mobile library. Its purpose is to extend the library’s reach beyond the physical building, and to enhance the library’s accessibility throughout the community. The mobile library will allow us to take library service to community events, parks, daycares, senior centers, neighborhoods and many other places throughout Clay Township, making access more convenient for many.

 

The mobile library offers a select collection of high-interest books, DVDs, Blu-rays and audiobooks for check out, and provides a convenient place to return any Carmel Library materials. Patrons are able to register for a new library card, and information about library programs and services are available on the vehicle.

 

The mobile library has five staff members. While these staff are library employees, their sole responsibility is the mobile library. A weekly schedule of stops has been established. This schedule will change periodically to accommodate the school year, summer months, holidays, and seasonal events.

What is on the mobile library?

Books, DVDs, Blu-rays and audiobooks are available for check out.

 

Can material be returned to the mobile library?

Yes, any CCPL material may be returned to the mobile library.  Also, check out our drop box located at the CVS store on Main Street and Towne for returning materials.

 

May newly returned items be checked out on the mobile library?

Items returned to the mobile library will need to be checked in at the library before they can be checked out again.

 

Can fines and fees be paid on the mobile library?

No.  Fines can be paid online through the online catalog, or in person at the library.

 

May I register for a CCPL library card on the mobile library?

Yes, staff on the mobile library are be able to register patrons for a CCPL library card.

 

Where do I pick up my holds?

At this time, all holds will be picked up at the library (located at 55 4th Ave. SE).

 

How long is my checkout for mobile library items?

The mobile library items have the same loan periods and fine schedule as the library.

 

Loan Periods and Fine Schedule:

  • Books, 3 weeks: $0.10 per item per day
  • Audiobooks on CD, 3 weeks: $0.10 per item per day
  • Bagged books & CDs, 3 weeks: $0.10 per item per day
  • Blu-rays, 1 week: $1.00 per item per day
  • DVDs, 1 week: $1.00 per item per day
  • Music CDs, 3 weeks: $0.10 per item per day
  • Magazines, Adult and YA, 1 week: $0.10 per item per day
  • Magazines, Children’s, 3 weeks: $0.10 per item per day
